Tesla is imposing some huge price hikes on its vehicles in the wake of the federal EV rebate and in the face of potential Trump tariffs.

The automakers have given no reason for the price hike, but the Model Y, X and S are all jumping up $4,000, and the Model 3 is going up $9,000. This puts the once affordable Tesla, at a starting price of roughly $67,000. That doesn’t include the Full Self-Driving features, which cost an additional $11,000.

Since there wasn’t a huge Tesla price hike when Canada imposed tariffs on Chinese EVs, it’s expected that Canada’s supply of Teslas come from the U.S.

Right now, in the political world, Donald Trump is threatening tariffs against Canada, which could kick in around February 1. That could explain the Tesla Price hikes. That said, the discrepancy between the Model 3 and the rest of the price hikes does cast some doubt on the situation.

This all follows Tesla raising prices on some vehicles by $1,000 in mid-January after the funds for the $5,000 Canadian federal EV rebate dried up.
